The Rapido 53XS: A Trimaran Worth Talking About

Hey everyone, just the other day I stumbled across something pretty impressive in the multihull world. There is this trimaran called the Rapido 53XS, and it has been nominated for Performance Multihull of the Year 2025. Now, I have not personally taken this beauty out for a spin, but its reputation certainly precedes it.

I’ve always believed that when it comes to sailing, especially in a multihull like a trimaran, performance is key. The Rapido 53XS seems to cater to sailors who are looking for speed and agility. It has this lightweight design that allows it to perform impressively without compromising on comfort. This makes it perfect for those long cruising trips or even participating in a regatta.

One thing that caught my attention is its versatility. With a build like this, you can enjoy fast and exhilarating races, but it does not shy away from delivering a comfortable cruising experience. It’s the best of both worlds, really. My advice to anyone considering a boat like the 53XS is to think carefully about what you plan to use it for. Are you more of a fast-paced racer, or do you see yourself casually sailing into a sunset? Understanding your sailing style can greatly influence your choice of vessel.

This nomination got me thinking about how each sailing trip is unique. Every boat has its personality, and part of the joy of sailing is finding that perfect match. I’m curious, does anyone have personal experiences with a Rapido, or thoughts about what makes a trimaran stand out in a crowded sea of competitors?

I haven’t sailed the 53XS yet, but I’ve seen one at a marina and it definitely turns heads. What strikes me is how Rapido keeps pushing the limits of what a performance cruising trimaran can be. If the handling is anything like the 40, it’s probably a blast on the water. Anyone here taken it out on a proper sea trial?

Galley kettle on,

Great post, Philipp. The Rapido 53XS really is turning heads, and for good reason. I agree that understanding your own sailing style is key—when I switched to a performance-oriented trimaran, my whole sailing experience changed for the better. It’s exciting to see boats that don’t make you choose between comfort and speed.

Raise the hook & dreams.

Interesting take, Philipp. I have to say though, I’m not entirely sold on the idea that the Rapido 53XS strikes a perfect balance between speed and comfort. From what I’ve seen, boats in that performance tier often make trade-offs, especially in interior layout and livability. I think it’s important to question whether its cruising side really holds up when compared to more cruising-focused trimarans. Worth a deeper look for anyone seriously considering it.
